Singapore Influencer Faces Investigation for Alleged Animal Abuse

A Singaporean influencer, Eunice Ng, known online as “Mermaid Girl,” is under investigation for allegations of mistreatment and lewd acts involving her dog, Fleur De Elise, affectionately called Fleurry. The National Parks Board (NParks) initiated an inquiry after videos surfaced that raised concerns about the treatment of the animal. Ng has strongly denied all allegations, asserting that her dog “can do whatever it wants.”

The scrutiny began when videos appeared online, with one showing an individual scolding and hitting a dog. Many social media users speculated that Ng was the person involved, prompting reports to NParks. Subsequently, a video posted on TikTok intensified the situation, claiming Ng had engaged in inappropriate behavior with her dog. This led a volunteer from an animal welfare group, identified only as Josephine, to further investigate Ng’s social media presence.

Josephine discovered a disturbing list of services offered by Ng, which included an entry labeled “dog play,” lacking any description. Additionally, she found photos of Ng with her dog that were interpreted as suggestive. One photo had a caption reading, “Who wants to be my dog?” These findings raised alarm among animal welfare advocates.

Ng addressed the allegations in statements to Mothership, clarifying that the term “dog play” refers to a BDSM service involving clients being treated like dogs, rather than any interaction with her pet. She emphasized: “I don’t see anything wrong with it,” and firmly stated that “sexual acts are never done involving my dog.” Ng also acknowledged that she did scold her dog, but framed it as a necessary form of discipline, rejecting the notion of “gentle parenting.”

In her defense, Ng expressed her love for Fleurry, stating, “I bring her to all kinds of dog events. I even groom, bathe, and cut my dog’s nails myself.” Despite her claims of responsible pet ownership, the situation has attracted significant public attention and concern regarding animal welfare.

On December 20, 2023, Ng posted on Telegram a photo of herself with Fleurry, captioned, “Mummy’s gonna miss you.” The implications of this message remain unclear, leaving many to speculate whether the dog has been removed from her care.

The ongoing investigation by NParks and the public outcry highlight the complexities surrounding pet ownership and the responsibilities that come with it. As the case develops, Ng’s actions and their consequences will continue to be scrutinized by both authorities and the public.
