Sister of Geordie Shore Star Dies from MDMA Overdose

The sister of reality television star Holly Hagan, Darci Rose Gibson, tragically passed away due to multi-organ failure linked to an overdose of MDMA. The 19-year-old died on October 20, 2023, following an incident during a night out at the popular Warehouse Project nightclub in Manchester.

An inquest into her death, conducted at the Manchester Coroner’s Court, revealed that toxicology tests indicated “high levels” of MDMA in her system. According to the acting senior coroner, Zak Golombeck, Darci was admitted to the Manchester Royal Infirmary on October 18 after suffering a “cardiac arrest.” Unfortunately, she succumbed to her condition two days later.

During the inquest, Mr. Golombeck detailed the circumstances surrounding Darci’s admission. She had been enjoying a night out when she mixed MDMA into her drink. After the cardiac arrest, she was swiftly transported to the hospital, where she received emergency treatment but subsequently developed multi-organ failure.

The coroner confirmed that a Greater Manchester Police officer reported Darci’s presence at the nightclub during the incident. “There was a suspicion at the time that she had taken illicit drugs,” he stated. This suspicion was later corroborated by medical professionals treating her.

The preliminary cause of death was identified as multi-organ failure resulting from an MDMA overdose, pending further investigation. The toxicology report, which included analysis of both blood and urine samples, confirmed the presence of the substance at dangerous levels.

Following her sister’s death, Holly Hagan expressed her devastation, describing the experience as “traumatised.” She shared that Darci “passed away peacefully holding my hand surrounded by my family and her best friends.” The outpouring of grief from the family and friends reflects the profound impact of such a loss.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with recreational drug use, particularly among young adults. The inquest has been adjourned, with further inquiries expected to shed more light on the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
