More than 1,000 children participated in hands-on activities focused on technology and science during the annual Festival of Tomorrow. The event took place at the Brunel Shopping Centre in Swindon, transforming the venue into a vibrant hub of creativity and discovery throughout the February half-term.
Themed ‘Living in the Future,’ the festival provided free, interactive workshops that covered a range of subjects, including engineering, space, sound, music, nature, climate, and chemistry. These engaging activities aimed to inspire curiosity and foster a love for learning among young attendees.
Louise Halliday, the head of programming and outreach for the Festival of Tomorrow, expressed her enthusiasm regarding the event’s success. “It has been wonderful to see so many families enjoying these free activities together in the heart of the town,” Halliday stated. She highlighted the importance of the Brunel Shopping Centre as a communal space, saying, “The turnout at The Brunel was fantastic, proving once again what a vital space this is for bringing our local community together through discovery and play.”
In addition to the workshops, children participated in a Robot Trail that guided them around the shopping centre. This interactive feature added another layer of excitement to the festival, encouraging exploration and engagement with technology.
Tim Knowles, founder and managing director of FI Real Estate Management, which manages The Brunel, emphasized the significance of providing free activities for families. “Offering these activities for free gives parents a hands-on option and helps inspire curiosity in the next generation,” Knowles said.
