Jo Austin’s sudden passing followed a brief illness, leaving a profound impact on the community. As the practice manager based at the Bury branch, she also provided essential support to the Mildenhall and Thetford locations. Her extensive experience began at just 16 years old when she joined Eastgate Vets as a ‘girl Friday,’ eventually rising to the role of practice manager over three decades ago.

Colleagues describe Jo as having a “heart of gold.”

“She was an amazing colleague with a heart of gold and we will all miss her terribly,”

said Claire Crane, co-practice manager at Eastgate Vets, who worked alongside Jo for 42 years. Claire noted that Jo was widely recognized by pet owners and had received countless messages of condolence from the community.

Jo’s warmth, empathy, and impeccable sense of humor made her a favorite among both clients and team members. Claire reflected on Jo’s nurturing nature:

Jo Austin’s funeral is scheduled for midday on March 20, 2023, at St Edmund’s Chapel, West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby. Friends and family are encouraged to make donations in her memory to Bury’s Stray Cat Fund as they remember her incredible life and contributions to the veterinary community.
