Urgent Repair Underway After Manikonda Pipeline Bursts at 2:40 AM

URGENT UPDATE: A major water supply disruption is underway in Hyderabad after a crucial pipeline ruptured early this morning. The incident occurred at approximately 2:40 AM near the Nagulamma Temple, resulting in significant flooding in residential areas.

According to Ashok Reddy, Managing Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the 1,200 km pipeline that connects Khanapur to Bojagutta suffered a severe break. In an effort to mitigate further damage, water supply was halted at 3:00 AM, and emergency repairs began shortly thereafter.

Residents in several neighborhoods, including Kokapet, Gandipet, Manikonda, Narsingi, Manchirevula, Puppalguda, and others under the Bojagutta and Shaikpet reservoir commands, are currently experiencing disrupted water services. Flooding has particularly affected basements and streets, with officials noting that the high-pressure pipeline burst released a substantial volume of water.

To address the situation, HMWSSB has deployed water tankers to the most impacted areas, ensuring residents have access to clean water during the repair process. As of now, repairs are utilizing 1,150 MS barrels to replace the damaged sections of the pipeline.

The repair crew commenced work at 7:00 AM, and officials have indicated that water supply will be restored in phases once the repairs are completed. The nearby Pandena Vagu (canal) has helped drain excess water, preventing further flooding in adjacent colonies.

This urgent situation highlights the critical infrastructure needs in Hyderabad and the immediate impact on local residents. Stay tuned for further updates as HMWSSB works diligently to restore water services across the affected areas.
