Bus Crash in Belleeks Claims Driver’s Life; 40 Children Safe

UPDATE: A devastating bus crash in Belleeks, Co Armagh, has resulted in the tragic death of a driver who was transporting 40 schoolchildren. This incident occurred shortly before 3:45 PM today when a private coach from Quinn Coaches flipped over, leaving the vehicle on its side.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Tullyah Road, where eyewitnesses reported children climbing out of the bus through windows and the roof to escape. Fortunately, no students sustained serious injuries in this horrific crash.

Officials from Quinn Coaches confirmed that the driver tragically died shortly after the crash. A spokesperson for the company expressed deep sorrow:

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our drivers was involved in a road traffic accident whilst transporting school children today. Our first thoughts are with his family, friends, and fellow colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”

The principal of St Paul’s High School, Dáithí Murray, reassured parents that all children are safe and have returned home. In a letter to families, he acknowledged the shock experienced by the pupils, stating:

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call at 3:38 PM and dispatched multiple resources to the scene, including five ambulances and advanced paramedics.

Local police have advised road users to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as investigations continue. A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated:

“Road users are advised of a collision in the Tullyah Road area of Belleeks between Newtownhamilton and Camlough.”
